| | Lava Lake, Oregon
Lava Lake is a relatively small, shallow lake
on the eastern side of the Cascades. Although it is a headwater system to the
Deschutes River, the trout fishery is currently maintained with annual stocking
by ODFW and a vigorous netting program by the local resort operators to suppress
the introduced tui chub. MaxDepth was contracted to lead a formal investigation
of Lava Lake including developing a modern bathymetric map (see thumbnail below) and
reconstructing the changes in the lake using paleolimnological techniques.
MaxDepth, working with its collaborators (PhycoTech Inc.,
MyCore Scientific,
Inc., Dr. Roger Sweets), have completed an evaluation of changes to Lava
Lake.
